The Chiefs were one play away from reaching the Super Bowl last season, and it showed in 2019. It’s clear that they were fueled by knowing they were just one play away — on which pass-rusher Dee Ford lined up offside, with the defense coming up with what would’ve been a game-ending interception on Tom Brady, but it was canceled out by the penalty — from playing in the big game last year.
But that’s all water under the bridge, as now the Chiefs have avenged that loss by defeating the Titans in the AFC Championship game, and they’re set for an epic showdown with the 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Super Bowl LIV.
And they’re the best bet on the board.
Currently, the Chiefs are available at either -1 or -1.5 to win the game. However, if they play man coverage, Mahomes waits for defensive backs to turn around, and he either slings the ball downfield for big plays, or he simply takes off running, often down the sideline, without even being hit. Neither the Texans nor the Titans were barely able to even get a hit on him, let alone sack him, so he comes into Super Bowl LIV completely healthy, fully recovered from the dislocated knee he suffered earlier in the season.
The 49ers are a one-dimensional, run-heavy team, that, at times, has looked predictable in their playcalling. They also have a head coach in Kyle Shanahan, who, as the Falcons offensive coordinator, blew a lead in embarrassing fashion, and allowed the Patriots to complete the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, from a 28-3 fourth-quarter deficit, three years ago. Don’t think that that isn’t in the back of his mind. As for the Chiefs, well, they have the best coach on the field, and the best quarterback, so that’s why they’re the best bet in the game.
